RTS Intercoms
This move allowed Telex to broaden its presence in the professional communications market by adding more advanced, versatile systems to its portfolio.
McCurdy Radio Industries of Canada had a long history in this field. Beginning in the 1940s, the company started manufacturing intercom systems for professional broadcast and communication applications. Over the following decades, McCurdy built a reputation for reliability and innovation, culminating in the mid-1970s with the introduction of the 9100, a solid-state intercom matrix. This product represented a significant technological step forward at the time, moving away from older, relay-based or purely analog systems and toward more compact, flexible, and scalable solutions suitable for complex broadcast operations.
When Telex acquired the matrix intercom line from McCurdy Radio, it gained access not only to proven technology but also to an established customer base and a foundation for future developments. Telex quickly began extending and improving these matrix products, enhancing features, performance, and integration options to meet the growing demands of television stations, production facilities, and other professional users. Since the RTS brand name was already well recognized and trusted within the broadcast industry, Telex chose to market the new digital matrix products under the RTS label as well. This decision helped ensure continuity for existing customers and reinforced RTS as a comprehensive brand for both party-line and matrix intercom solutions.
A major milestone came in September 2006, when RTS became part of the Bosch Group, a global leader in technology and services. This acquisition integrated RTS into a larger organization with extensive engineering resources and a strong focus on quality and innovation. Under Bosch, RTS benefited from standardized, streamlined, and modernized manufacturing and quality-control processes, aligning its products with Bosch’s well-known quality standards. In addition, the move brought a renewed and strengthened commitment to research and development, supporting the ongoing evolution of RTS intercom systems to meet future market needs and to keep pace with advances in digital audio, networking, and broadcast technology.
